Broyle Lane
![]() |
![]() |
Not all the houses in the present Broyle Lane are the result of the expansion of the village. The Bays is present in both the old post card and the photograph taken in March 2002.

This is Mr. and Mrs. Miller, great, great, great grandparents of Mike Sainsbury who provided this picture. According to Mike's great uncle, they were the overseers/landlords of Broyle Lane. Rent on some of the cottages was ½ crown per week. Mr. Miller was an architect and builder who built homes along Broyle Lane. His own home, The Bays, was built ca. 1840. |

Ringmer Board School

The school in the post card served the entire age-range of scholars in Ringmer. As the village grew, a Secondary School (now a Community College) was built a little further along the main Lewes Road. Next an Infants Department was built in Harrisons Lane, leaving the Junior Department in the original school building. Later, the Juniors joined the Infants in the newer school in Harrisons Lane. The original building was closed in 1992 and demolished in 1993. The land was used for new housing.
The pictures below were taken in the last few months of the old school building.

Post Office

| The post card on the left shows the Post Office staff posing in the road for the photographer. Not advisable today! | The building which was the Post Office has been converted into flats - the new light wooden fence at the front of the building can be seen towards the right of the modern photograph. Ringmer's Post Office then moved about 150 yards along the Lewes Road in an easterly direction. In October 2004 this premises closed, but in November 2004 a new Sub-Post Office opened within Forbuoys. Forbuoys has now changed its name to McColl's and the Post Office remains in part of the store. |

In the far left of the picture Union Terrace has changed to Corner Green. Otherwise, the major change is the form of transport!
